Favorite "Offbeat" Movie

What's your favorite "Offbeat" Movie?
I like "Better Off Dead" with John Cusack,
"American Flyer",with Kevin Costner,
"Blazing Saddles" with Gene Wilder,
"The Frisco Kid" with Gene Wilder,
"The President's Anylist"......

American Flyers was an embarrassment of a cycling movie. The true classic is Breaking Away! It's a must-see for.. well... everyone! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

"A Boy and his Dog"

Review

Quote:]Armageddon is a difficult thing to rationalize, lending itself to outlandish scenes of violence and debauchery. The idea of a pubescent Don Johnson wandering the lonely wastelands guided by an intelligent and telepathic dog is a new one on me, but for some reason it all fits. Particularly so when the pooch in question has a bottomless stomach and spouts an endless stream of acidic criticism at Don Johnson. [/QUOTE]

Nor exactly suitable for the whole family, and the ending is ... well, different.

Re: Favorite "Offbeat" Movie

Easy.

The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner
Quirky, dark and somehow, very working-class British.

My favourite "regular" movie is Doctor Zhivago

Interestingly, Tom Courtenay is in both of these films.

Blazing Saddles and The Rocky Horror Show
are great too.

Re: Favorite "Offbeat" Movie

You want off-beat?

Bike Boy, Andy Warhol.

Re: Favorite "Offbeat" Movie

Off beat? Does Office Space count? Hmm...and The Jerk.

Somehow I always find these movies years after everyone else thought they were cool. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif

"The Watch, the Wallet and the Really Big Fish"

yeah. I forgot about that one - I revise my previous post! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Re: Favorite "Offbeat" Movie

Offbeat movie?

Harold and Maude

!!!

(and the original The Wicker Man, 1973, runs a close second)

For a totally stupid and embarrassing (and *very* dated) movie, I nominate Kentucky Fried Movie.

Bad.

Re: Favorite "Offbeat" Movie

The best comedy movie ever made! The number of comedic stars or soon-to-be stars was unmatched in any movie then or since.

Re: Favorite "Offbeat" Movie

My favorite movie overall, thought its not really off-beat, is Flight of the Phoenix (the original with Jimmy Stewart).

Re: Favorite "Offbeat" Movie

There are too many good films for me to choose just one, and most of mine are oldies:

"The Spirit of St. Louis" with Jimmy Stewart is very near the top, if not on it;

"Sergeant York": Randolph Scott won the Oscar for this performance which was spot-on perfect;

"Lawrence of Arabia", cinematograpy is unequalled.

"Schindler's List", Liam Neeson, perfection.

Way too many to list, I could go on for hours.
