Fan Belt Sizing in UK

Aloha All,

Is there a difference in the way fan belts are measured between the UK and the US? The TR2 thru 4 use a Unipart GFB 409075 fan belt. The last one I bought had 20 x 900 marked on it. Measuring it, the 900 mm is the ID of the belt. In the US, (at least NAPA) belt sizes are labeled by the OD of the belt. In the case of the Unipart belt, the OD is 980 mm. Just wondering.

The Gates cogged belt I plan to use in my TR3A is 19A0970 for 19mm wide by 970 long. The packaging also reads 13/16" wide by 30-something as it's too hard to make out. It is marked "Gates Canada" and it has been the spare belt I have carried in the boot since I bought it back in 1993 or 1994.

Thanks Don,

I'm going to use a NAPA part # 2524379 as a shop spare. It is 19 mm x 980 mm or 3/4 inches x 36 5/8 inches.

If you get a belt that is too long, you may have a problem with the tensioning. That's the bracket that supports the front of the generator and if the belt is too long, the generator may be at the outer limit of the slot in that support bracket. But since your belt measures 3/4" rather than 13/16" wide like mine, your belt will probably sit higher in the pulley grooves and will probably be OK.
