Fan belt/pulley question

For background, I'm running a 1275 (from a '74 Midget) in my Bugeye with the generator from my old 948 setup. I've got a question on the fan belt and pulley.

First off, Moss lists 2 different fan belts. Which one do I need?

460-990 $5.95 FAN BELT
460-875 $4.95 FAN BELT 1098 & 1275 thru 1967

Second question relates to the pulley that goes on the water pump. I've got the original 948 pulley as well as the dual pulley from the 1275 (which came with an alternator). I'm planning to use a plastic 6-blade fan.

Which pulley do I use? Does it matter? I did read here that I'll need a spacer for the fan if I use the original 948 pulley. Minimania lists two spacers:

#12A312 .16" thick
#PGX10001 .66" thick

I'm keeping the generator as I'm not ready to switch to an electric tach quite yet.

Here is my guess... and that is all it is.
You need a spacer that is about 1/8 inch, the bugeye pulley and the plastic fan. the belt would most likely be the 460-990.

total shot in the dark, but it is a start.

Prob neither of those belts Drew, but not to worry. Your friendly auto parts store has a great selection.

The only real issue is that the pullys line up properly not the length of the belt. Lots of belts out there.

And ... the proper tension bracket.

That I do have, Trevor. I've still got all the bits off the original 948 install.

The dual pulley will work as is, if you use the 948 pulley, you will need a spacer so the fan clears the snoot on the timing cover. Mini's use them so Mini Mania stocks the spacer.
Now for the belt, stock generator from the 948 would have had a 900mm belt
They got smaller in the late 60s when the generator/fan belt bracket shortened up a bit. I think this belt is 825mm (not positive) and this same belt works for the alternator cars too.
So if you have about a 6" long generator brace, get the 900mm fan belt.
If your brace is about 4" or so, you need the shorter belt.
Those measurements are just a guess, I did not measure the braces.
1 is long, 1 is short they could be 7 and 5"

Thanks, Frank, for the additional info.

In cases like this, I just take an old, extra-long 1/2" wide vee-belt and cut it.
(it helps if you have lots of old crap laying around, like I do). :jester:

Position the generator close to the block so you have the maximum adjustment left.

Wrap the cut belt around the pulleys and hold as tight as you can while you mark the postion of the overlap.

Cut the belt so it is the correct length.

Bring it to the auto parts store.

Note: You can also just measure the length and tell them the width (I'm assuming it's 1/2" wide). Most vee-belt part number have the length of the belt near the center of the number. For example a "#48X430SK" belt is 43 inches long.
