Thanks for posting that, Bret. Great story, two great heroes there: the Marine AND his dog.

I work for a municipality, our cops have two Police dogs, "Bret" and "Zano". They're imported from Poland and bred to be police dogs. And, they are magnificent creatures.

They are a Shepherd/wolf mix with huge teeth (they look more like a wolf than a dog!)! The dogs are also highly intelligent and loyal, and able to comprehend tons of verbal commands. One saved an officer's life last year, took a bullet that was meant for the officer. A huge funeral was held for the dog, quite moving.

The "dog cops" both take their dogs home at night. No problems with the kids, etc. Away from work, the big police dogs are wonderful companions and surprisingly gentle.

Dogs are a gift from nature to mankind, I think. Truly, man's best friend.

Thanks folks! This is particularly touching story for me anyway in that it taps in on pretty much everything I hold near & dear.

First “The Corps” of course – in that it’s a story that every Marine (Past & Present) can appreciate and relate to - the brotherhood if you will. Second is the relationship or bond between a dog and his partner/owner that every dog lover the world over can empathize with. And lastly tying this all together for me - is the since comradely or family that every Jarhead shares with one another – even with our K9 Marines like Lex.

Semper Fi!

Good. Lex has a home, no stress and a familial smell.

Balance.
