MGB-GT Facet fuel pump location

Here's where I'm thinking of mounting the Facet fuel pump in my '67 GT (red dot). This should be out of the way and a nice solid location for mounting. I've got a MGB transmission mount that has the right bolt pattern for the pump, and a single stud to mount to the car making it easy to get the mounting angle correct.

Any thoughts or concerns with this plan?

That's about where I mounted mine, Drew. Same piece, just put it on the "outside" (right side) of the box.

I have never mounted one. That being said of everything I have read while I was considering making that mod, thats the location to put it in. Mount it through some rubber bushings to keep the ticking of the pump from traveling through the body.
 
Yes, Drew. Closer to the original, wiring is simpler and retrofitting the SU unit later is easier.

This is Wednesday's project -- once the fuel pump is in place and working I can get the suspension bits back on and get driving again.
 
So I got the fuel pump location sorted out last night. Wound up going pretty close to where the original SU pump goes. The battery bin somewhat limited my options, and this spot worked well and should keep things up and out of the way nicely. Pump is mounted on an MGB transmission mount -- provides isolation and the mounting tabs are perfect for the pump.

Also discovered that the car was converted to negative ground at some point in its life. Don't know how completely it was done, but as the car runs really well I'm not going to mess with it at this point.

The fuel lines in the picture are not in their permanent locations, they're just temporarily installed so I can do some figuring. I've got a bunch of time open this weekend, so I should be able to button this fuel stuff up and get the suspension bits back in as well. Certainly has been nice working up in there with the rear axle out, lots of space to move around!

But boy, I sure wish I had a lift!

Drew, As I remember, the Facet pumps used to run all the time, do the new ones shut off when pressure builds up? Reason I ask is I would like to put an auxiliary pump on the TF. The TF pump on the 55s are mounted up high on the rear chassis and are a nightmare to access out on the road should it decide to quit. PJ
 
It's a constant run, Paul. Put a fuse holder in-line and keep the fuse in the glovebox. ;-)
 
Doc, Would you suggest putting the aux pump before or after the SU pump? PJ
 
As Doc said, you need to be able to kill the power to the Facet for it to work as a spare fuel pump. The other option is to wire in a switch somewhere unobtrusive where you can switch between the two pumps.

This article has a good example of doing a spare pump. It's for an MGB, but the theory is the same.

A (distant) future project for my GT is to go back to a SU pump for the main pump, and keep a Facet inline as a switchable spare just in case.
 
I'd put it between the SU and the carbs.
