I will try not to tell you what I think of the idiots that run FaceBook. I will be very careful as expletives may no be deleted.
On or about 01JUN17, they shifted from Flash to MP4 for videos. My wife loves FB....I do not...and her videos were "we're sorry, we're having trouble....". So, she came into my office and we could play them on my machines...for 3 or 4 days.
FB has done these "rollouts"....hits different folks at different times. When mine quit, we researched it, and found "MP4 not supported", which is no surprise inherently on XP...even though I have all the programs and codecs to play them on all my XP machines. FB did something that broke it.
It was all over the internet...folks were furious...many of us logged into their "help" forums and told them what we thought. Things like "12 percent (admitted) of the computers worldwide use XP, and your business is photos and videos, and you just gave that up".

It affected Opera, FireFox, Chrome..even folks using 8 and 8.1 were having issues.

Two weeks later, it's a freaking miracle..it all works.

You would think there would be a tad more oversight for the clumsy morons they hire with bright ideas that just break functionality...and this is far from the first or only time this type of thing has happened.

So....I dug out the Ubuntu box, updated the OS, and it's running on the KVM, playing with it, trying to see if I can move shi...stuff around on the desktop to be more like what I am used to. I figure if I can get this sorted, and we have to jump for any reason, I guarantee you it won't be to another MS product, even if it's free.

Did I tell you I HATE FaceBook?

And FireFox is a bunch of twits. When FF started, they were leading edge, anti-IE, make it work...I went to their forum (been a member for a LONG time) and the resident moron told me to quit scavenging computers and using older OS....they won't fix it.

SO, before FB fixed their screwup, I found a website that had the older Chrome programs. Loaded 49.0, and on XP it played all the FB videos just fine.

So, Chrome can fix it, but FF isn't interested?

Need to find me another browser NOT MS and NOT Mozilla, I guess.

If you think "rant mode" is off, think again.

When the rift twixt FF and Adobe came about I wound together another machine, loaded CEntOS 7 on it and Chrome as the dominant browser. No fan of Google (or FB for that matter) here but it does work, where FF has dropped the ball, IMHO.

First unit I tried is an old Sony VAIO with Centos5, no password, gave up for now. I have four towers spread around my desk, need to hook up the four port KVM switch.
