Facebook syndrome

Have a young girl patient that I kinda was perplexed about why she and her younger sister almost seemed abused or neglected by their mother. Not physically abused, but just not maintained and nurtured as they should have been. The father works overseas and makes big bucks, so they are not poor. Well, it finally came out yesterday, another relative spilled the beans on the mom. She is a true Facebook Addict. Spends every waking moment on Facebook, dealing with drama and others and neglecting her children. Sad. There is nothing I can or would do or say.

It is sad recently a woman was convicted in the death of her infant who drowned as she played a game on Facebook.

It's not the fault of Facebook, these folks need to "spend time wisely".

What a pluperfect waste of valuable time. Holy cow . . . :nonod:

You're kidding! You mean there are people in the world who spend every waking moment at a keyboard, staring at a screen? Even when their job is totally unrelated to what they're staring at?

OMIGOSH!

Bill if I didn't know you were in LA, I would have sworn you were talking about a former co-worker of mine. She got dismissed from work here two eyars ago and still hasn't taken a job. Blames men for all of her troubles. Spends a lot of her time on Facebook and finding "friends" on the internet.

I really don't understand living your life in public.

For most of us, myself included, I don't really understand why the public would even care about our day to day lives. I don't use social networking as I don't want to know that most folks would find my days kinda dull....

Uh, of course my little time I (we) spend on the BCF doesn't really count, does it?

NO, no. Not social networking. This is technical and opinion research.

Facebook is good and bad. It's like any other form of communication. You must use it with a thought process. I'm on Facebook and it gives me a chance to connect with friends on an almost regular basis. I never say what I am going to do but what I have done. I have also privatized all my settings including photos. I don't ever friend someone that I don't know and I don't play the games/quizes/etc.

As with any social network if I want to say something that I don't want public, I pm (private message) that person and I never put anything on Facebook that I wouldn't want the whole planet to know.

Needless to say "I don't spill my guts." and never, never do this while on the 'puter/
