What happen to what I wrote?
I work in the refinery industry and personal protective equipment is something I wear every day I go into the refinery. At many monthly meeting they talk out using personal protective equipment at home as well. So I thought I would share the following.
I always where safety glasses when I use the grinder, but even with very good quality ones I would still get bits of debris in and around my eye. So before starting the restoration of a '70 Spitfire Mk3 last month I went out to a local safety supply store and bought a face shield with replaceable visor, which cost me all of $15; $5 of which is the replaceable visor. The face shield is fantastic. Not one piece of debris from grinding and cutting has made it to my face and I have gone through over a dozen cut-off wheels and 4 or 5 flapper disks in the past month.
I knew that there would also be lots of dirt and debris in the air as well during the restoration phase and we all know how terrible those face masks you buy at the hardware store fit. So while at the safety supply store I bought a box of ten 3M particulate respirators, part# 9211-37022. These ones are very comfortable to wear and they have an exhale valve so your breath goes out through the valve rather than around your nose. I highly recommend these respirators.
