FAA may consider furloughing controllers again
Sources say the Federal Aviation Administration may again consider furloughing some employees, including air-traffic controllers, due to ongoing budget cuts. AOPA is urging the FAA to minimize cuts to weather stations and other services used by general aviation. "We’re in for some pretty tough times," said Melissa Rudinger, AOPA's senior vice president for government affairs. "Certainly we anticipate something similar to earlier this year."

Sooooooo then, who keeps folks from running into each other?

Very true! But even with the cuts and the 4 fold increase in traffic over the past 20/30 years, the accident rate is lower than it was in the 50/60s! Modern airborne equipment, such as transponders and additional equipment, constantly tells pilots where other aircraft are and gives warnings and voice instructions to prevent airborne conflicts. Some of the newer aircraft can actually land themselves without any pilot input, pretty amazing. But, we need controllers, not less of them, but more of them! Air traffic controllers have one of the most stressful jobs that exist, knowing that they hold the lives of so many people every day, in their hands. Their shifts should be shorter, not longer! A lot of this stuff is going on today where a shift of money, not the saving of money, seems to be the norm. We need Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger to run for president! (OF THE US)! I think he'd win. :friendly_wink: PJ

He's actually a good man, doubt he'd want the job.
