Looks like he ejected just in the barest nick of time. Another 1/2 second delay and he'd be toast.

He did...close one. FWIW it wasn't during an airshow but rather a practice for an airshow this weekend.

That's right, thanks for the clarification.

Scratch one more Hornet. Ouch.

That is a really good demo of the zero-zero seat.

This happened only a couple of hours south of me... And it was during practice as Nial said

From what I heard they didn't cancel any of the air show, and that even the rest of the CF-18's were still going to perform...

Fireballs that were flying put a chill in my bones. Largest I ever saw was a 52 that ran off the end of the strip at Da Nang. We were about 3 miles away from the end of the runway but that was a fireball that I can still recall in vivid memory....

It really reminded me of the MiG-29 crash at the Paris Airshow about 10+ years ago.
Looked like similar maneuver (low speed-nose up).
Pilot also ejected "last minute".
I saw the pilot interviewed later and they asked why he didn't bail out sooner. He said (in Russian), "First I had to make sure I steered the plane away from any civilians". Cool cat!
