External Hard Drive Queston

I have a 120 Gig external hard drive that I use for a back up and refresh it every couple weeks. The last time I cleaned it out and went to do a new back up, a message came back saying there wasn't enough space on the HD! It said it was only 7.5 Gig instead of 120. Any clues as to what and why it did this? How do I correct it? It actually reads 7.5 Gig! PJ

How are you "cleaning it out"? If you're sending it to the trash, that doesn't free up space, it just moves it. What system was the drive formatted on? For 120 gigs, I'd format with NTFS on Windows or EXT4 on Linux. If you use the drive for both systems, I'd go with NTFS and make sure there are no permissions set.

Thanks Greg. It's been used on W-7, never had a problem before. Will format it in NTFS and see what happens. PJ
