Exhaust

Dudly

Jedi Hopeful
Offline
Hello everyone. I hope July has greeted everyone warmly.
I am trying to gather opinions regarding exhaust for my 79 Spit. I collected a gently used header from Scott at Team Triumph. A bit of bead blasting and they look fantastic. Anyhow, that leads to the nest part of the equation. Where to go from here.
Team triumph has a really nice exhaust set with twin pipes from the UK, and I have seen the set offered by Monza or pace setter. The other option would be to have a system made by a good shop, (would it really be so wrong to have a strait pipe with a glass pack cherry bomb inline?)
I have two desires: first to have the system be a bit loud so that folks driving round in their living room sized SUV’s notice me, and secondly, look better and or different from stock. Basically I want it to sound good and a bit loud, peppered with some cool factor.
I welcome any and all input. Thanks

I've never been a fan of the Monza systems. They're usually just a bit too loud, and I don't think they're durable enough to warrant the price. If you've got a good local exhaust shop, have them make you up a system; there is NOTHING at all wrong with straight pipes and "Cherry Bomb(s)".

I don't know that exhaust sound volume will get you noticed any better by average folks in their SUVs, but consider that it might get you noticed by law enforcement officers in their SUVs (and Crown Victorias and whatever else they drive)!

I have the monza on my 75 spit. PO installed.

it is on my list of things to replace/change

it is loud...to loud for my tastes.

i feel like i am disturbing the peace everywhere i go.

i feel like one of those harley guys that just put straight pipes on and then roll through residential areas blipping the throttle......at 2am

it is tiresome at cruising speed after about 10min...and if you have a passenger trying to talk to them over the din is difficult.

but thats just me.

How about side pipes and a flame thrower kit?
Flame kit
That otta get the SUV's to take notice.
On a more serious note you can get exhaust cutouts that port the exhaust to one, or to another muffler. You can be loud on the freeway and not loud in town. They come in manual or electric versions.

:iagree:
That's what I have on all my Triumphs, and I'm quite happy with them. The previous TR3A system was just a bit loud for my taste (tended to set off car alarms), so I mentioned that to my muffler shop guy and he toned it down a bit this time by installing a second "Cherry Bomb" behind the rear axle. The result is perfect, IMO.

Of course, no amount of noise will keep some people from pretending you don't exist ... although banging on their fenders with my fist seems to usually get their attention.

Or a good diesel air horn. It's louder than texting.
