Does anybody know for <span style="font-style: italic">sure</span> if the original exhaust valve seats in the 100-4 (four cylinder) cast iron head are pressed in or just ground in the casting?
 
I would say they are integral part of the casting. They were part of the casting and flame hardened back in those days. The ones I worked on were cracked right down across the whole seat. If they are pressed in they crack behind the seat. If yours is cracked it can be repaired either way. A really good shop can repair it. Good luck
 
In 1986, I had induction hardened exhaust valve seats fitted to my 6-cylinder's head.

Unless there's a problem with the head, hardened seats aren't such a big deal for the intake valves.
