MGB-GT Exhaust Question ..[to get things for my 70 BGT]

I had the chance to crawl under it last weekend, it really is rust free under there! What a welcome sight, I had glanced before buying but really looking & feeling tells the tale.

I've gotten an order from Moss in here and am scouring the land looking for a few special bits.

So - I need a new (or good used) left side (driver side) rear bumper. The one on there apparently was snagged by something and is bent and even if it could be straightened it's chrome is pretty bad.
The right side looks good, my new overriders should be here any day.

I also need a new plate light, one is good the other was broken somehow. These things are really different - not your basic plate lights.
I'm sure Tony knows what I mean.

That's it for now, next major fix on my list is to replace the windshield. BillM knows a guy... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Re: Starting to get some things for my 70 BGT - needs=

I just pulled a set of bumpers off an old car - think they'll both rechrome easily...got one of the plate lights sold already if its in good shape..I'll know when I put them on the bench for disassembly.

A left bumper and a plate light assembly would be very nice indeed!

Re: Starting to get some things for my 70 BGT - needs=

One bad thing I discovered, (and if this is the worst I find then I still feel really lucky) is that one of the bolts attaching the Y pipe to the flanges at the bottom of the manifold is busted off up in the manifold. So there's an exhaust leak.

I've done this before, it has been quite a while.
Had to drill out the bolt, got another to fit in with new flange gaskets. If I remember correctly it was an awful terrible job. Anybody know if any of the exhaust shops would do this kind of thing & about what it should cost?

Re: Starting to get some things for my 70 BGT - needs=

Not exhaust shop, take the manifold to a machine shop and have it done right.

Re: Starting to get some things for my 70 BGT - needs=

Machine shop is the only way to go. I had 4 really stuck studs removed for 8 bucks a piece.

Lets see if I am hearing you right.
Drive the car over to a machine shop?
It doesn't make sense to take the manifold off the car and take it to a machine shop, if I got the manifold off the car I wouldn't have a problem any more.

Take it off. Take it all off.
