exhaust header

hey guys, i guess i just need peace of mind rather than to be told what to do here, but i have the b running albeit very loudly, still no brakes or clutch yet, but had to make sure it ran, i have the weber downdraught, and i have an exhaust header, its of the long tube design, very similar to the peco unit, however it is the kind with the bolt up flange at the end and it is a two bolt design, i am having trouble locating another flange to mate the exhaust ssystem up to it with, if in my shoes, would you simply cut off the flange and use slip connections?? only drawback to that that i can see is when time to replace clutch, any feedback greatly appreciated
thanks.
Darren

Any chance you can make a cardboard template and get a local metal-mite to cut one out of plate then weld a short piece of exhaust tubing of proper size into it?

...just a thought.

Or take the cardboard mockup to your local parts dealer and see if they can match a gasket to it to show you what kind of car it will interchange with. That way you are not using custom flanges and can get a replacement any where.

"""""the bolt up flange at the end and it is a two bolt design,""""

probably an off the shelf flange dimension.....2" pipe with a 3 1/2" bolt distance

any competent muffler shop....

Someone I once knew - once had a cat "fall off of the car", quite litterally. He went to about 10 shops that wouldn't even install me a new one. Then "I" took the proper measurements, went to one of the muffler shops that wouldn't work with him, and said... "I need a piece of 2" exhaust flared at one end, 6.25 inches long". Then "he" took the car back about a week later and asked... "can you weld this exhaust pipe for me... it's awfully leaky and noisy." I... I mean he already had the exhaust pipe filler in place before someone asked that of the shop (held on with metalic duct tape). $15 later... best danged running 1981 Pontiac Sunfire you ever drove. hehehehehheheheehee.
