exhaust again

Just wanted to follow up on the Bell stainless steel exhaust. It came the other day, and it is one great looking exhaust. The detail work on the fit and finish is excellent, and somebody clearly put a lot of time and effort into making this exhaust. I plan to install next Friday, and won't know if it fits out of the box until then, but I suspect that any problems will be on my end, not the manufacturers.

Now, a question (are you there, Keoke?). Should I also install chrome tips, or just let the ss ends show. They look fine, but aren't high polish. Or, I could try to polish the ends. I'm not sure what it was supposed to look like from the dealer. I suspect that the exhaust tips on the BJ8 were just mild steel without chrome tips, but I would rather be sure. Thanks, as always.

Yep Im Here Scott. No need to install tips we polish the ends of the SS pipes and that takes care of the problem looks great too.--FWIW---Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

And again, thank you. Do you use a polish or put them on a wheel? I tried to hand polish them, but didn't make a dent. The wheel worked pretty well, but they are a little unwieldly, given their size and shape. Yesterday was a great day in the northeast to be out in a Healey, regardless of how shiney the exhaust is.

Yes Scott, they must be polished using a buffer. Most chrome shops can polish them for you .Polish only about 9" back from the tip.---Keoke
Oh, You can get rid of the Shiney by painting the pipes black won't come off like the mild steel ones do. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

The factory exhaust systems were painted black. High temp. BBQ paint works good to get the same look. The polished SS looks very nice if you are not concerned with originality.

Cheers,
John

Hi John, Here the polishing only entails the last 9" of the pipes to eliminate the addition of, "Shiney", exhaust tips.---Keoke

HI Scott, What shape do the mufflers have ?-Oval or Round in the Bell System?---Keoke

The tips are just the slightest bit oval with an angle cut to the ends. Barbecue black? Interesting image.

OK SHG, but what shape are the MUFFLERS; Round or oval??---Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Mufflers are oval. See, it only takes me 2 tries before I understand that question. I'm getting much better.

and the outcome of the Bell SS exhaust installation? Incredible fit and finish. Perfect. This was a really good one, and I recommend it without hesitation.
