exhaust again

I had to remove my one year old exhaust (comes in sections). I used clamps to attach the parts before. They crimped the pipes. Now I cannot get them back together. Is there a tool to expand the outer-larger pipe to allow it to slip on again?
Thanks.

Yes, see the attached pic for one version of the tool.

If you use the band type of clamps as sold by Denis Welch & others, the pipe will not be crimped & it still holds very well.

Thanks, Dave. After seeing the one you posted, I pulled up Harbor Freight's web sight and they have one. Now to find the clamps that won't bind.

Patton,
I have never looked for these clamps stateside. They came with the DW headers, muffler, tailpipe, as part of the package. It would be interesting if you find another source.

Hi Patton, The clamps shown on the ABA site can be obtained from any Volvo dealer they are standard on those cars.---FWIW---Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

Here is what I found with some quick searching.... They all seem pricy, it may offset the shipping charges

Hi Patton,
The clamps I'm refering to are "Mikalor Supra W4, T-bolt clamps", Spain. The ones on the sites you referenced are nothing like the Mikalor which is considered to be one of the very best. See attached pic.
There is a USA distributor here:

The size depends on your pipe outside diameter. I used the W4#, 301313-9 on the header branches & 301315-5 on the tail pipes. Measure carefully, there is not a lot of takeup room with these clamps.

Sorry to go on a bit of a tanget here, but I took the plunge yesterday and ordered a Bell stainless steel exhaust with the Moss hanger sets. They swore that it was going to fit properly the first time, with no welding. We'll see. This thread has me a little concerned about the hangers and clamps, but I really didn't know what to do as an alternative. I think the price was pretty reasonable, and priced an exhaust from UK, but even in mild steel it was almost twice the cost.

Now if I can only get Keoke to fix my trafficator.

Have fun with the hangers.....
It's a mental exercise. Do they go this way or that? I used extra rubber spacer-washers to help reduce sound and vibration. I had a number of pieces left over. I think Moss included many extras just in case.

I Heard that SHG!. You keep up this wishing and you gonna run plumb outah breath. What won't your trafficator do??---Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Keoke, if I start up with my trafficator woes, not canceling, then I would be hijacking the thread. And that wouldn't be right. Besides, I have all those great trafficator photos now, so there's no excuse. Except of course my own incompetence.

Dave, It looks like the sealfast clamps are sold in lots of 50. Anyone know where I can get only 4? It appears that the stainless take more torque than the other type.

No MH67, If you can fit the pipes without cutting slits you will be much better off.More often the slits are the cause of leaks in the system.--FWIW---Keoke

Slits were themain reason fo;r redoing the clamps. I could feel some wind and see the deposits at the slits after a year (3 out of 4 joints). I bought some exhaust seal (Moss) and I plan to use a pipe expander to get the smaller pipe further in.(1/4in). The lead to Burns stainless seems good and I will order the clamps on Monday. Harbor Freight for the pipe expander tomorrow.
Thanks all for your most valuable help!!!
