TR4/4A Exhaust a tad too loud...

I have a TR3B that has a TR4 engine in which I installed slightly larger pistons. The exhaust system is just slightly too loud. Neighbors and I would prefer slightly softer too loud enough...slightly, slightly...
I was thinking about a motorcycle baffle in the end of the exhaust pipe.
Anyone tried this?

Find your own supplier (this one for illustration only)

But I have something like this in my tool box when I do my sprints and hill climbs in case the venue noise police start to get twitchy.
luckily not needed as I hit 98dB which is ok in the uk tracks.
You can also wrap it with exhaust material if needed a good temporary fix.
If you need a permanent fix talk to a good exhaust shop about repacking you’re silencer box.

remember you may ? Have to revisit your carb settings to check on AFR.

James, my 56 TR3 has the old standard straight thru muffler and a two outlet finisher that is not a muffler. I put a bike baffle at the beginning of the finisher and it helped just enough to make it tolerable. Drill one small hole and bolt in the bugle shaped piece, couldn’t be easier. They come in various shapes and sizes. If I remember correctly, under $15.
Good luck!

I am in the same situation. 89mm pistons, "D" cam, tubular headers that have a 2.5" collector and a straight pipe back to a 12" square Flowmaster. Straight pipe to a blue colored 2" tailpipe. When trying to source an insert, it looks like the motorcycle ones are the only ones to fit. I have also seen fiberglass packing fitted to one tailpipe that looked a little cheesy. It would be good to hear what you end up doing.

Back in the day we would use stainless steel scrub pads.Worked and lasted OK. They
seemed to add a little bit of back pressure ,but not much. This was just the trick on
my old honda which had megaphone exhaust pipes,Got a lot of tickets!
Mad dog
