it is one of the rearest cars that MG has ever built. Nobody knew that this car was around.

certainly looks like a slippery body design though... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It was VERY slippery!

Don Hayter (Chief design engineer of the MGB and also had his hand in the development of the MGA Twincam) was literally shocked to see this car on the showfield.

The smile he had on his face was worth a million dollars!

Kudos to Tim Coyne and NAMGAR for arranging for these special MGAs to be in Gatlinburg!

Is the story of this posted someplace?

story of the car being in Gatlinburg? or the story of the car in general? I think the car is mentioned in one of the MG history books...

Oh, I ment where they got it, why it is in the US and the restorations stuff.

Really neat to have a one of.

I agree, but it had its purpose. The rear was extended a foot over that of the MGA and the front 6 inches in order to provide downforce at its incredible design top speed for Le Mans of 140 MPH. This was long before adjustable wings. so other means had to be provided to keep it on the road. They lowered the position of the twin-cam in the MGA frame rails to reduce the center of gravity even more.

Thanks to Rick for posting the photos. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

For more info on the car, its owner, and its restoration, see my original July 13 post "EX186 not rumor"
