'67 EType late Series I. (usual start routine a few cranks, count to three, push botton again, starts up) Pushed starter button, cranked several times, counted to three, pushed starter button, starter barely turned engine, from horn to lighs all electrical completely dead. Went away for 3 hrs came back, horn, lights etc now working, hit button, barely cranked and again complete elec shut down, 30 min later, electrics back up, hit button, same deal. The barely cranked sound is like a very weak batter, Volt meter shows 12 volts across battery. Soooooo.... by tomorrow maybe I will be in mood for Lucas jokes, having looked at location of starting motor--just not right now.

A battery could read 12 volts but under load lose most of it. Sounds like a bad battery or bad ground or other connection not tight or corroded.

Thank you Bruce and my apologies, the act of typing the message made me think maybe a weak battery capable of charging but not holding one. Sure enough, it took my charger about 20 minutes, car even started instantly, but whatever that condition is that allows a battery to charge but lose it after a few spins of the crank, that must be affliction. Once again---keep it simple--- after 40 years of messing with these things I still forget that most basic rule, thanks again
