Ethnic Food

Do any of you have a special yearning for comfort foods that goes along with your ethnicity? I, for one, love and love to make Arabic food. I spent all of Sunday afternoon making baked Kibbee and Grape Leave Rolls. All this was instilled in me from a very young age and my three grown sons think of it as heaven. It just feels good to eat it!!

What do ya'll make!

Kinda like Bangers and Mash for us Arabs.....if you will

Lasagne, ravioli, gnocci... but in truth, about any group's "peasant food" is wonderful IMO. Herself's family are eastern European, so borscht, pierogies, halupki are all on my list, too. As is an authentic spice laden Thai noodle soup! Or chicken fried rice. Bangers 'n mash. A chip butty with mushy peas. a real burrito, some nachos, a big bowl of French onion soup...

Stands up, raises hand: "Hi. My name is Entropy, and I'm a food addict."

Pass a couple of those grape leaf rolls!!

I'm with you doc.... every nationality has some wonderful tasting food. I love trying them all.
There are some good eats on the lower east side of Manhattan.

Grandmother used to stuff cabage w/ some kinda red sauce. Man did that rock. I thought kibbee was raw? She never made that.

It's like a refined "corn dog" Billy... but INFINITELY better. Sometimes a ball, sometimes an oblong shape. NO stick!
...Lamb is my fave. Itsa labor-intense work of art, BTW.

I'm salivating here!! Dam, I wish I'd not logged on this evening. :smirk:

Hey Doc. Pierogies,Golumkies, and dont forget the Garagekies. Cant open the garage door without them.

A real, authentic Katz's pastrami on rye right now would send me to nirvana, Elliot!

You a Pittsburgher originally, John?!?! :jester:

Bein' a Heinz 57, my taste is eclectic. Mexican, Cajun, Creole, Spanish, French - can't pin down any one particular.

But if I had to choose the perfect comfort food, it would be the Monday staple of old New Orleans - red beans and rice!

Sounds like you know the hot spots on the lower east side.
Ever been to Yonah Schimmel's? It's been there since 1910.
If you haven't doc let me know and I'll meet you in the city the next time you are there... we can do some damage together!

We could argue all night. But we'd need to have it all laid out in front of us FIRST!!

My maternal side are all Italian, mother was the first native born child of six. Paternal side can be chased back to a 1760's immigrant Scotsman. Wild is a lifestyle.

...but haggis ain't on my board. Go figger. :jester:

Boss, it has to be squishy white bread.

Seriously as husband is a fussy eater I make the items he won't eat for his mom and I that I know she will like. Yesterday I made Arroz Con Pollo, Cuban style chicken and rice. Leftovers were placed in one meal containers to be frozen and eaten at a later date. Husband hates peppers, wouldn't even look at a pimiento and if the rice isn't white, won't eat it. Oh well, he's also allergic to fish. I, on the other hand, have no allergies and just eat all the good stuff. Portuguese dishes (especially love linquica which I order on line) Polish, Italian, Armenian, French and other ethnic foods. Geez, you'd think I like to cook and eat. You'd be right!
