Engine will not start

Hello,

In an attempt to bring the Healey to life I experienced that there is a starting issue.

Allthough the battery was flat I used cables to make an attempt to start ( engine turns when using the start button)

battery cut off switch works when turning the contact lights / meters working

fuel pump tics and give sparks

Engine turns but doesn't fire (no spark) on spark plug

changed the rotor arm ( was broken)

Where to look next?

With the ignition on, take off the distributor cap. With a small screwdriver, move the points apart. You should see a small spark jump between them. If no spark troubleshoot the low-current wiring to the distributor and/or change the points and condenser.

OK, we need to make sure that we have a spark from the spark plugs. Remove a spark plug and leaving the cable attached hold the body of the plug against the a good ground (use a heavy glove to hold the plug!) and crank the engine with the ignition on. You should see a healthy spark jump across the electrodes of the plug. If not, change the plugs and spark plug wires. If you have a spark than it's either bad timing (distributor installed 180 deg. out - it happens!) or no compression or bad fuel.
