Hi Guys, I need your help once again. I have a 1967 BJ8 and recently purchased a Pertronix Flame thrower distributer, I'm not sure where to set the timing. I currently have it set at 15 degrees before TDC. Thanks, Steve

Sounds about right to me.
 
I think I range in that area. I have a BJ7 with BJ8 cam and HD-8 Carbs. I don't go more than 15* if I am aware of it. If I remember right, since there are no degree marks on the balancer, i think 12* is about 5/8ths of an inch and 15* is about 3/4ths of an inch. Someone might want to correct me if I'm wrong. But that is what I have been using. Sometimes I will advance it from there till I get some pinging, then back it down about 2*. But i have never put it more than 3/4th inch from TDC. I have zero experience with a petronics but I don't think it should make any difference in your base timing. Dave.
 
Thanks for the info. By the way, Sears sells a timing light that has has a knob on the back for setting timing when the only reference you have is TDC. It's a " craftsman advanced timing light" that sells for about $65.

I'm sorry I'm only funin with ya. I'm too cheap to buy new toys but with the new engines I have been playing with I might have to break down and buy one of them. Dave.

Although I haven't used my Sears timing light for years (Allison/Crane electronic ignition), I always wanted to check it by measuring the appropriate distance from the TDC mark and seeing if the advance lines up. Then again, the car works nicely so I guess leave well enough alone.
