Engine test run stand

After I finish the rebuild on my 1275, I'd like to test run it before installing in the car (the bugeye has a perfectly functional 948 installed). That way I can work out the bugs in the 1275 before pulling the 948.

Anyone ever done this? What type of stand/jig/device can be cheaply constructed to to it?

thanks
Fred

My father has one he built. However, there was a guy at LotO that built one using an old hand dolly as a frame.

You really do not need much ... battery, coil, fuel pump, radiator,...

Here is a really simple one I got with the free A series motor. Only thing it needs is gauges.

Built a good (we thought!) stand with 1" angle iron for a 4.2 Jag mill... rad, gas, electrics, gauges and control... hint: DON'T rev it suddenly!

Just an FYI.

That is charming! I dig old custom tools like this. Yeah, I would flesh that out with the goods and use it.

I'm sure last year at bronte there was a guy running a 1275 on a stand made from 4x4's

I've made a couple using cut off front frame sections. That was I can use the original motor mounts and add the radiator all in stock form. I add extensions to the cut off frame legs and can even attach the transmission. The front casters are mounted outboard of the frame legs, giving plenty of stability. There's plenty of room to add gauges and a fuel pump, even wire up an ignition switch. With the casters and it can be tucked away all together until it's ready to go into the car.

Spritenut, test ran his on the floor. No stand. Just enough to see that all was good. Miss Agatha did the same thing. Could always bolt a 2x4 on the motor mounts if it bothers you.

In fact wood will work great for a test stand. Not a lot of engine there.
