Finally, life seems to be getting out way of me working on my sprite.

I'm going to be pulling the motor and tranny out of my sprite soon, and was just wondering what the best lifting points would be on an A-series motor? And also if any of you knowledgable folks have any tips, hints or suggestions for this task?
 
Rob, I use one of the thermostat mount bolts and the top left transmission mount bolt. I remove the valve cover to gain a little extra room for the lift to span.
Some sort of tilt device to attach to the lift makes the job much easier. I have an Oberg tilt lift that has served me very well over the years.

A couple of tiedown straps with the rachets on them works as well.
 
Kim, you can't remove the crank pulley while the engine is in the car. It sits directly behind the steering rack crossmember. I've never had a crank pulley foul anything yet, and I've pulled literally hundreds of these engines.
That's where the tilt unit comes in handy, as you can raise the nose of the engine nearly vertical to get it out. But, I never had any problems either, before I got the tilt lift.

I've had the pulley catch on the hood latch panel coming out and catch on the crossmemeber below going back in. I know I have put a timing chain on without pulling the motor, but I cannot remember if I loosened the mounts and jacked it up or something like that.
 
I made my own trans mount for the 5 speed and it is a bear to get the bolts started. I won't pull mine unless I have to. In the UK I pulled motors out of minis with a piece of chain and a long pipe and two strong backs /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol.gif I'm much smarter now, I have an electric hoist in my basement.
