The engine in my TR2 is seized. This is never a good thing. I did a little detective work this afternoon...here's what I found.
Nice, clean top end. The rocker arms all look good.
The water outlet was full of oxidized aluminum...no doubt from being dry (no coolant) for many years. The water temp sender came out with a little help from the "heatwrench"...but the threads came with it...no big deal.
The #4 intake showed signs of water...just a little rust but still not perfect.
I pulled the head (amazingly easy...I pulled out the studs and it practically fell off the block!). Anyway, I found nice, clean valves and combustion chambers...barely any soot or carbon.
Here's the cool part...brand new pistons!!!! Folks, i didn't even clean these..that's the way they looked as I pulled off the head...at least THREE look that way..
Here's #4...remember the "rust" in the head on #4...well water got into #4...but it's really not too bad. Saturday I will clean up the top of the piston, clamp down the liners and see if I can spin the engine. With a lot of luck, I'll be able to free it up, clean it a bit and bolt it back together!
Evidently the engine was just rebuilt before it went into long term storage somewhere in the early 70's.
Stay tuned!
