Engine overhaul

Hello,

I have a spare 3000 engine, which I would like to have overhauled for fast road/quick accelaration of the car

Currently that engine has a non overdrive transmission but have the parts to have it converted to overdrive.

Car has two 2 " carburators.

What would you guys suggest ?

All the usual performance tactics can be used; higher compression, longer duration/higher lift camshaft, combustion chamber and port matching...

The list goes on, just take a casual pass through Denis Welch's catalog and let your imagination wonder.

An economy sport rebuild or the most bang for your buck I would suggest forged pistons, a BJ8 cam, headers w/free-flow exhaust and by all means a lighten flywheel, 20lbs. or less. Everything else could be stock with the exception of maybe cleaning up the head with a little porting and polishing and adding HD valve springs.
This will make a strong pulling street car with lots of grunt. You can spend a lot of $ to get more hp, but you don't need to for a reliable fun running street car.

I'd also add (well, I did) a higher ratio roller rocker assembly. You can also go for a longer than BJ8 grind on the cam without sacrificing low end grunt or streetability. Mine was ground to 268° by Iskenderian though there are a couple other places to get about the same thing.

Hello hama61,

Nice to see you're still around here, how's that car of yours going?.

Hello GregW

I'm with you on the cam grind. For what it's going to cost get something with more duration. I have a 270 deg cam in my BN7 and it seems just right. I'm still waiting for my roller rockers to arrive. I would like to go with headers but that project is further down the road so as to speak. Also, I would go for electronic ignition first up.

Best regards,

bundyrum.

Hello neighbour :savewave:,
you need more power for your caravan...?

Ok, my english is not the best, but for me it sounds a little bit like the questions of the following article
I think the most of the members here, know this page, but in my opinion it should really answer the most of your questions.

In my opinion first you have to know, how much you would like to spend on this project. Than you can decide what is in combination of the most effective system.
Flow , Flow and additional Flow is the cheapest and effective way, to get more power. Only handcraft and the knowledge of classic tuning (To understand were you can grind) is needed. The lightweight race parts are very expensive...

Also AH- Spares has competition parts...if the Dennis parts are to expensive...

Bye Michel- makes currently not enough progress on his restoration
