Engine options

Just a short rant. Okay, I need to rebuild my motor, or replace it, or swap it for a v6, or a v8. A rebuild will cost as much as purchasing a good running parts car, if I could find one. I'm trying to fix it with the least possible down time at the lowest cost. I'm indecisive enough without a million options to choose from.

You don't say what car you have. But, if it's a "B", the fastest way to get it back on the road is to buy a used or rebuilt "B" engine. If you start swapping out to another type of engine, the car could be setting for a long time and the cost is usually higher, sometimes much higher.

:iagree:

Plus, in many cases, engine swaps can often reduce value of the car.

By the way, I did a "sympathetic", in-car engine rebuilt on my B. New rod bearings, rings, valve job, gaskets and some other stuff. It was pretty easy and cost me less than $600. Runs great.

Its a '73 MGB and I purchased a parts car with a good motor last night. The little 4 cylinder is growing on me I guess.

Once they're put right, they're darn-near bulletproof. Great mileage and loads of fun, too.

Absolutely. Mine was sitting for 12 years and all I did was awaken it and changed the waterpump. I Rev the snot out of that li'l sucker and she keeps coming back for more. Why I ask do I want to build a motor then?

I concur w/ the above :yesnod:

In good trim, it's a spunky little lump.

Nice and torquey.

Loads of fun!
