Engine oil quantity

Hi, I'm new to this forum and this is my first message. I hope someone is around who can give a helpful advice on a problem I encountered during my last oil change.

When I refilled fresh oil in the engine of my BT7 I was surprised to see that after pouring in about 12 pints the oil level had reached the max mark on the dipstick. Oil filter was changed as well.

All the literature I have says that 15.375 pints are needed.

Do I have the wrong (too long) dipstick, maybe from a BJ8? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Car is equipped with an aluminium sump.

Any helpful hints are highly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Rick,
Welcome to a great forum. As for your question, see my reply on the "Healey List" which I ran across first.

Dave, thanks for your reply on the Healey list, just got it. Think, I have to solve this problem by 'trial and error', cause there are so many unknown variables involved.

Will try one pint 'above max' and see, how the level behaves.

You're welcome, Rick. I remembered the previous discussion, and knew which search word to enter, and that made it easy.
There is a lot of information in the archives, and it's worth the effort to look. Don't feel sorry for not going there first, as there are lots of folks that don't avail themselves of that feature.
