Engine Oil Flush??

I've posted about high oil pressure ( crankcase breathers ) and received alot of good input from fellow forum members (more venting,etc.), to ideas from publications from the UK, and finally from an AMGBA consultant. Additional venting and/or changing the pressure relief valve is not a problem, but doing an engine oil flush (last resort before teardown)is something I hope someone else has done.Does this really work or just another way to sell oil products? The original post was in the triumph forum (triumph engine)but I'd like to get as many opinions as possible. Also posting in triumph forum.
 
How is the oil pressure you're worried about manifesting itself? Are you seeing high pressure displayed on the oil pressure gauge, or are you seeing oil drip out of every seal and gasket?

If you're seeing high pressure on the gauge, look into what is necessary to adjust the oil pressure relief valve. You should be able to fine tune the valve to get what you want.

If you're seeing oil pumped out of every crack and crevice on on the engine, what you're dealing with isn't oil pressure but crankcase pressure. To address that you need to fit the extra vents and eventually, possibly, consider a rebuild of the block. Some crankcase pressure is always present but when vents can't keep up with it, it might indicate excessive blow-by cause by worn bores and rings.

As for the oil flush chemicals, I've used them off and on along with the occasional use of kerosene. A lot of LBC people consider these steps a bad idea. The argument goes that whatever sludge is in your engine, a cleaning chemical may just loosen big chunks that float elsewhere and block critical oil feed holes. I suppose that is quite possible. However, oil flushes have not caused problems for me in the past. Regardless, from the little information in your post above, I doubt an oil flush will benefit you.

doing this is like giving your engine an enema. oil flushing was somewhat popular many many years ago when the oil congealed inside the engine in a black sticky mass around all the internal engine parts....and clogged some oil feed holes especially to the valve train system.This procedure will not abate your oil leakage or blowby condition. in fact it might make it worse.
I have read that you had attempted to control oil leaks by additional engine venting...and leakage still was problematical??

The fix would be finding where the leaks were and if the engine was happy in ring seal or worn to the point of excessive blow by.
