Engine Numbers, etc.

Hello everyone.

Just joined in on the fun and was wondering if anyone can shed some light on some numbers stamped on the head of my 3.8 litre I'm using for a project car. Thus far I can't seem to comfirm where it was originally used, year, etc. Only that it is for 8:1 compression denoted by the '8' at the end. The 'D' has me not finding it on any of the tables I have looked into.

Numbers on the front of the head: 7D50595-8
Numbers on the rear of the head: GB552

This tops off my 1963 XKE 3.8 litre block. The engine runs really strong and would just like to know the bits and pieces it is made up of. It was built by Brian Middlemas Queenstown(decal on the cam covers) for a Knobbly Lister. All information will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Scott

The '7D' head is a 4.2 liter from a 420G or 4.2 MKX . The block # is close to the oil filter housing unless it is a much later engine. Originally the two #'s matched. 3.8 E-Type engine #'s start with 'R' of 'RA'.

Thank you Alan, I appreciate your setting me straight as to what I have. I don't find any numbers on the block nearside by the oil filter mount(it has been converted to a spin on/remote cooler setup) but on the offside I find:
[H][F][F] [0] 17.7.63
These are cast into the lower edge near the pan flange running from front to rear. I was told that the block was cast on 17 July 1963. Is this correct?

Also, any insight to the 'GB552' in the rear valley of the head. It's stamped into a flat boss that looks to be there for just that purpose.

Thanka again, Scott
