If all goes well, the Midget will be sans engine by the end of tomorrow. It's warming up here (25F today!) so the garage is at least reasonably palatable.

Where do I attach the engine lift to? I've got one of those stabilizers, and it has 4 chains off of it, with 4 angle braces to attach to the motor. Suggestions?

You used to be able to buy L-shaped brackets that attached under the two bolts holding the rocker cover. This location is not a place you would want to swing the engine around from, but it is at least strong enough for the basic up-and-down lifting of an A-series plus its transmission, and means you don't have to remove the cylinder head bolts. I used to have a pair - they were standard BMC parts, ie painted green and all. Some cars even came with them from the factory.

I and my family will be in your neck of the woods this coming week (Sandy) hoping to enjoy the sloping white stuff. I hope there is plenty of it, at least in the appropriate places.
 
Mine are on the manifold bolt closer to the rear, and the thermostat housing, and I have an L shaped (rocker cover) as mentioned above also.
Drawing an imaginary line from the closest to the radiator to the firewall does give something of a balance, but 4 would be better.
 
Chris, there's plenty of snow here (got a good storm last weekend, with a little fresh on Saturday). Should be some good skiing to be had.

My engine leveler has L brackets on the end of all 4 chains. Looks like I'll try the 2 rocker cover bolts.
 
Just be sure that your hoist will have plenty of lift. Attach the boom down close to the engine or you may have trouble getting enough lift to clear the slam panel.
 
The thermostat mounting bolts in te front, and the top bell-housing bolts at the rear have worked well for me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
