finally came back from the rebuild (took 8 months) on Saturday. It was dyno'd and put out 171hp 150 lb/ft torque! should be sufficiently scary in a 1400lb car /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

Now to put it back in the car and do all the other little stuff that was planned. Hopefully it won't take as long.

Doc, you must have got their ears ringing because I got the call the very next day after our shed discussion /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Oooh......Hope you have a nice new set of stickies /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/driving.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

That's next, but having trouble finding tires that fit

Glad to learn it's back home! Now you're "traction limited" fer sure. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif YEEHAW!

Diff output shafts the "bigger" ones? IIRC you didn't have plans to flare the wheel arches. That means some tire searching. I thought Sumitomo had a 145 or 155/70 which would *just* fit in those wheel wells. Gotta be extra careful as it'll chew up outer front arches on full lock and a bump... guess how I know that. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

Oh, I have plans for some kind of flared wheel arches (26r style) just don't have the money.

Already have the proper output shafts and everything.

Already have 165/65's that fit fine, looking to go to a 175. Sumitomo makes a 175/50 that may fit, but not sure.

I ran a set of those once...Not bad except the sidewall flex was ridiculous.
(And my car is about the same weight as yours)
If ya get them....Try 36 in the front and 38 PSI in the rear.

Running vintage Hoosiers now.....Much better!

175/50 on a 4.5" rim may be pushin' it a bit. At least YOU'RE runnun' point. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif I'll know what NOT to try when the time comes. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

Shave em puppies & it will help a bit....

Otherwise you'll look like a frightened kitten on a hardwood floor. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Nice mental image, Dave. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shocked.gif

5.5" mebbe. +2 rims are that wide.

I was hoping to get the Yokohama A032 but apparently they don't make them in 13" anymore /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

yeah, our 'choices' are getting ever more restricted. Some of the makers will hopefully notice and start a 'niche' line of rubber.

Check out the section width on the 185/60ZR13 Toyo Proxy RA1s here...

My recommendation....If they fit.

Or you could use Formula Ford slicks.
Probably one of my most interesting experiences in the rain. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif
(Driving a 'hair-trigger' car on 6" wide slicks)

BTW...The Sumitomo 175s bolt up great on 5" rims

Would love those, but I am pretty sure 185's will not fit without flares.

I may try the sumitomo, they are only $44 each so if they suck, it's not that big a deal. Shaving them would probably be good.

36/38 seems a lot of pressure though, I only run 25psi in my tires now

It exists! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banana.gif

That's lookin' mighty proper, Morgan! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

When's it get slotted in?

Should be going in today and then over the next couple of weekends will get the ancillaries, some rewiring, etc.. I am hoping it is back on the road in time for Steve's Labor day drive

I look forward to seeing it there!

171HP in yer Elan ought to give Steve and his 'C' a run for his money in the twisties /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Glad to hear it's back. 'bout time!
Now we want to hear how well it runs...

Unfortunately, there is a new setback. Upon investigating a sticky spot in my steering rack, it was discovered that it needs replacing or a rebuild. More time and money, ugh /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif
