Engine ID needed

The 59 Bugeye I recently I bought has what someone thinks is an early 1275, possibly from a Cooper S. The serial number plate is gone, but the block says: 12G 432 on the side near the water drain valve. The engine has tappet covers.

Does anyone have any knowledge of what motor this might be?

Brian, I just went out and looked, and the "Big Crank" 1098 I have in the garage has the identical casting number on it.
If it still has the stock cylinder head on it, the head casting number should either be a 12G 295, or a 12G 206.
No provision for a mechanical fuel pump, right? the mounting pad is there, but it's just a flat blank surface with no holes in it.
Mine still has the "1100" tag riveted to the forward left side of the block.
Hope this helps clear things up.
Jeff

Yes, the pad is there for the fuel pump, but no holes for a pump. And the head is 12G 295. The crank is 12G 430.

Sounds like it is what I suspected, a 1098.

Thanks for the help.

But, Brian, on the up side, it's the "good" 1098! I've got one that has been tweaked to the max that lives about 150 miles north of you, and it's a sweet engine.
Jeff

No performance comnplaint with this engine! It runs great!
