TR4/4A Engine guestions

I have a TR4A with a relatively recent engine rebuild that is running rich with Stromberg carbs. New, clean plugs are sooty within a hundred miles or so and it starts running poorly. I'm having someone with more experience look at it and hopefully come up with a solution. Meanwhile, another classic car owner recommended Sea Foam to clean things up, so I'm trying that to see what it can do. Does anyone have knowledge of this to share? Still another friend said I should use a lead additive if I can't get leaded gas. I haven't done that yet. Again, pass on the pros and cons of these ideas. And thanks.

I've used Seafoam several times to loosen stuck piston rings and improve cylinder compression. Never used it for carb problems. I've had no problems with SF - but do some more investigating before you use Seafoam (or any similar "gunk remover"). It may be that all you need is to reset the air/fuel mixture, and/or use fresh fuel.
