Need an opinion as to a cold start problem with my 1996 XJS 2+2, 4.0 6 cyl. Engine has 66k miles, uses no oil between changes, does not smoke from the exhaust. On cold start there is the clatter of metal on metal until the oil pressure comes up. Once pressure is registered on the oil gauge the engine runs quietly. The problem does not present on hot engine restart. I notice when I change the oil filter there is no oil spilling out of the filter. I am wondering if the filter I use does not have an anti drain valve causing a "dry start" situation. I am concerned that with time permanent damage to cams and bearings will result.

Hi, and welcome to the Forum.

This is the section of the Forum for questions about how to navigate around the website. You need to post your question in the Jaguar section; won't take long to get a response.
