The engine and trans are stuck together pretty well. I did get them apart from each other about ¾ of an inch. Probably stuck on a rusty ect..... clutch---plus been together long time. Any idea how to disconnect?
You don't want to pry on the bell housing. Use a tow chain to make the engine fast (by the block) to a fixed object. Loop another piece of chain around the trans forward of the mount boss. Hook one end of a come along to the chain on the trans and the other end of the come along to another fixed object. The chains and come along cable can probably be run under the car. Be sure to support the rear of the engine.

Are you doing this in the car. I’ve done this twice in the car. For me it was get keeping the trans keep in the proper alignment with the engine for it to slip right out.
I should have shown a picture for clarity. I pulled them as a unit and the 2 where stuck really well. I finally re-picked the load and moved the hoist towards the front of the engine. Then when I lifted the engine almost vertical, I had gravity on my side. Took some blocks of wood and 5lb hammer and worked the clutch off the splines and pressure plate by whacking the trans around the trans mount area.
