So got a phone call today from my brother who has been working on the car this last week.

He seems to have finally got to a stage where we can identify the camshaft: appears to be a 643/544 profile on an unmarked camshaft with a spider drive.

The big question is...

How lumpy does anyone think its going to be in a
948 + 60
Hepolite 18519 flat top pistons
Fully balanced and lighted
12g295 head (current CR 8.5)
2xhs2

First time have really worked with a tweaked a-series and we're having to reverse engineer this one a bit (was a mystery rally/hillclimb car thats sat rotting for the last 30years).

2 main concerns are:
a) will this be drivable sub 3000 revs?!
b) the block only has the single cam bearing...should we look at getting it line bored? machine shop that had it in for cleaning and decking felt the bearing and block looked fine...
but its obviously had some work at the crank needed sorting and one of the conrods needed straightening.....

rough figures apparently were:

Camshaft
Full inlet lift 115
in open btdc 35
in closes abdc 75
ex opens bbdc 70
ex closes atdc 40

in cam lift 0.3
ex cam lift 0.3

Which match closely to the C-AEG-643 in vizzards book. it has 1/2inch lobes. But no markings apart from possibly an A? (see pictures) on the end.

Also the recession of the lobes show in the photos below, is that normal?!

The equipment in use...probably as old as the car
