Emergency Question: Time sensitive

I just got home and have limited time before the wife gets home and wants to put up the xmas tree tonight. I need to adjust valves. Question: Can I adjust valves with the engine hot?

Thanks, I found it in MG repair manual number 3 /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif In fact, this manual suggests setting 12V engines hot and all others cold.... not sure what the difference would be except emission controls???

The engine spends most of it's time running hot and the gaps may change a little unevenly as they warm up. The engineer chose to spec it this way. Some cars are specified cold for initial set up and than hot once the new engine is running.

I set the valves hot and it fixed my rough idle (as far as I can tell thus far). I'll be listening for the clatter tomorrow but hopefully the problem has been solved! And even better... the wife isn't even home yet! I can scrub up and she'll never be any the wiser. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
