Elva She Wins

Well the last few weeks the Elva has been quite active

We took the car to Columbia Gorge Rally and we took 5th place in the Novice category for the TSD - not bad but good roads.

The Elva is breaking in nicely - a bit of SU needle experimentation has gotten me to an acceptable drivability from sea level to 5200 ft - more power all around

The car revs nicely to 6000 rpm no issues - except Lucas C40 generators are not meant to go that fast - A lotus guy has told me that the Coventry Climax used an alloy pulley to get the revs down - I found a few that would fit in a vintage tractor supply website - Specifically for Lucas - Go figure - lets just say that after blueprinting the generator and insuring balance and integrity we had a pulley failure.

The car took second in its class (the headlights would not work after 25 yrs of working flawlessly - loose connection) and we took the European Excellance Award - both at the Forest Grove Concours - The Triumph club helped detail the engine.

At the Monte Shelton Rally this last weekend the car won the Hook award (though it was driven back - with the rally lanyard used as a makeshift belt between the waterpump and crank)

We won the Peoples Choice award - our rally results were dismal as we got lost twice right at the beginning of each day - I'll send the mistress to navigators school - as the mistress refers to the car as my wife.

So we are collecting trophies and educating the sports car world about Britain's other late fifties specialty race and sports car manufacturer.

Next week an invited outing with the Morgan club - there is a local Morgan 4+ Super Sport -
