Electronic Distributor

Contact Jeff at advancedistributors.com

Jeff can rebuild your own distributor and put electronics in it if you want. He will "curve" the advance to better suit your car than the generic units from Moss or VB.

FWIW, I went with the Crane Fireball system with optical trigger in the original distributor... easy setup, everything seems to be working very well.

I also, have some experience with the Crane system. It like the Petronix is not a complete distributor, just replaces the electrical part of the distributor.

Make sure the distributor you're putting it in works well mechanically. Good advance weight movement and return(springs good). With the rotor on the shaft try pulling/pushing it forwards backwards. If you can get measurable movement that means the bushings are worn enough to warrant replacement.

When you do install a Crane/Allison system make sure you leave enough slack inside the distributor pigtail lead for the advance(breaker plate) to move freely where the pigtail will not rub against anything.

This improper installation is the ONLY failure I have ever found with a number of Crane/Allison systems.

The beauty of the Allison/Crane systems is even if the bushings/cam lobes are worn slightly the system(being optical shutter wheel) works quite well compensating for the wear.

also worth looking into is the 123 distributor for A series engines..

never known anyone who has used one, just informing about options available.

Hello,
I used pertronix last year on my 1098cc positive gnd setup. It was beautiful worked perfect.
I am now running a 1275 bored out to 1363 and using the 123 distributor, I love the 16 curves it comes with. So far it seems to work great but still tweaking my setup. The guys at Swiftune like it, they like the fact that there are lots of curves to work with, for the hobbist I think it is great. It cost me about 500.00cdn not cheap, but nothing but the best for my LBC.
cheers Phil

I HAD a pertronix until it stranded me and gave me a $250 towing bill. Can't really say it was ITS fault. My installation, tho easy and cheap was too fast. I didn't allow enough slack in the system, OR didn't tie-wrap the wiring away from the rotor. The internal wiring as rubbed by the rotor until the wiring was worn thru! I hadn't enough foresight to carry points and a condenser with me, so i was SHOT. I put points back in when i got home and a couple of weeks later installed a Crane 700 for POSITIVE EARTH. The new ones don't care what ya got, so i obtained it fairly inexpensively. It made me nervous having to CUT the points pivot post, and getting it all set up really was a pain compared to the pertronix, BUT..... ..

that was over 2 years ago and not a problem since. i DO carry a spare dizzy completely set up and ready to go just in case, since i can't just swap points back into the old one,

just in case !

X3 for Jeff! He rebuilt my 25D and installed the pertronix unit for less than a new pertronix distributor. Mine was in rough shape.

He also explained why the rebuild would be better, and it makes sense. I am sold, I am really glad I sent it off to him. Great guy all around.
