Electronic Connection to Choke?

Crawling under my '80 TR-7 Spider yesterday, I found a wire and connector hanging free. It was part of a harness that extended to the altenator. Under the carbs was a square box that I assume is part of the choke mechanism for the twin carbs. There was a flat prong without a connector, and this hanging connector, so I connected the two together. It's warmer around here so nothing seemed to change in terms of running.

I seem to remember that Canadian cars had an electronic connection to activate or shut off the choke. Is this what I'm seeing on my car? There's no choke warning light in the car.

Should I leave the connector on or remove it?

If your car is/was air conditioned, I'd bet that the box is the "throttle jack" that is used to make the car idle faster when the A/C was on.
