Electrical woes 1976 TR6

Ignition switch failed or so I thought! Sourced new 6 terminal type from U.K..
On fitting I notice that one of the terminals in the female connection, way up under dash, has nothing in it.
Is this normal or have I lost a lead ?
Car still doesn't start.

on the 76 the switch different than others as you have 6 thermals they are not in order around the switch but all are used see clock face top clockwise #4 #3 #2 # 6 #1 #5
wires are as follows #4 brown-#3 white #2 brown jumper from #4 and on to fuse box
# 6 brown /red # 1 white /red # 5 white /pink starter off of # 5 and also starter relay
