Electrical Problems

Well, I traced the cause of the breakdown on Sundays trip home from the car show to lack of electrical power to the fuel pump and from there to a blown inline fuse (DPO). Simple, change the fuse, turn the key, click click from the pump, brief joy, then nothing. The starter is ignoring me. Arrggghhh. Check evrything I might have touched just in case - still no luck. Nothing, in fact, even the fuel pump has quit clicking again. So yesterday, it would crank but not fire and today, after I fixed it, it won't do that. Lights still work so there is power in there somewhere. Reverse progress.

The BCF solves the problem - merely by posting here, the car fired right up. Thanks guys!

Isn't it amazing how that happens? I had many an electrical problem that miraculously 'went away' after a rant here!
Glad it's back on the street...

hate to be a killjoy, but problems like that usually come back. i would check the health of your harness. is there any potential for shorts or overheating? also, look for areas of wiring that might have been damaged/cut/nicked where a high resistance connection resulted. most times high resistance connections are hard to find and exhibit some of the characteristics you saw. good luck!

Fred, you just described the ENTIRE harness in the car. Every wire has been spliced, cut, nicked etc etc etc. There are muplitple wires joined with household wire "nuts" and so on. It needs major help and I know it so don't worry about being a kill joy. I am just trying to buy time untill I get the B on the road and then I can fix her properly. Must have at least one MG in apprantly roadworthy condition to keep upper management happy!

Twice as many as me! I feel your pain with the wiring, sadly, I don't have an alternate MG to switch into.
Yet. (Got my eye on a 68 BGT, just waiting for the current owner to 'depart').

electrical problems were one of the main reasons i finally retired my 67 for 25 plus years. i had so many fires and failures that going anywhere was becoming an adventure.

Well, my alternate sat in a field for 5 years so it is a bit of a project - but I think it will be on the road before I tackle the wiring in the Midget. Here are the pics I posted of its rescure click here Thankfully, the electrical system is completely original (as far as I can tell) Did I mention I hate electrical problems?

Fred, I almost lost a B to fire years ago so I hear what you are saying.

Rescued? Exhumed more like. Bobcats are fun, but I would hate to try and unearth an MG with one. Get all that dirt out?
Good rescue sir.

you know i really have to post some pictures of my tub rescued from the wilderness of upstate maine. it was cut in half right across the sill panels and then welded back together with angle iron reinforncement inside the sill panels. it was actually bolted with heavy guage bolts. that's all gone now, but what a mess.
