Electrical problems

Hello all.
After removing my heater box for restoration, I have lost power to the horns (no power to the steering wheel push button) and this morning my ignition cut out a few times. With the ignition, the motor just stopped, I could still hear the fuel pump working, dash was live. I checked under the dash for loose plugs/connections, all looks O.K. Any suggestions on what I have inadvertentely disconnected and where to look for the fault? Or could it just be coincidence that these problems have occurred now?
Regards
Craig

Hmmm. Most likley something has been disturbed during the removal. It's probably a loose connector that's not readily obvious. Sounds like maybe one of the ones at the base of the steering column is where I'd start.
The horn button is actually a ground. 12v pos comes from the fuse box over to the control side of the horn relay on the LH side of the engine bay(purple wire I think). You should have power there. then I believe it's a purple wire with a black tracer that heads in under the dash and plugs to the steering column and up to the button. But yes there should be 12V pos in that purple/black wire too.
Good luck Guv'na

connections under the dash are all good. I took the steering wheel off and found there is intermittent power getting to the brass disc on the steering column. If I jiggle it the horns sound(when grounded). How do I get this disc off to find the fault (loose wire connection)?

Hi Craig,

I also have a 74 6, and I'm trying to figure out if my heater blower works or if it's shorted out. Did you remove it all because you were rebuilding the core?

no, the electric motor spindle had surface rust which caused it to cease against the top brass bushing. When I removed the heater box I found a new core and new wiring. The metal box is getting powdercoated at the moment. This should bring it upto almost new condition.
