Electric fan ?

I am currently running the stock cooling fan on my 6 with no cooling issues. My question is since I am changing to a D.Masters wiring harness and alternator upgrade would it be benefiting to convert to an electric fan. Is it more reliable and is there any noticeable power gain.

I replaced my stock fan with an electric puller fan. The stock fan assembly weighs about 4 or 5 pounds. I mounted my 185 degree themoswitch in the bottom of the radiator. No regrets yet.

Trip,
If you have no cooling problems, there would be no advantage to your switching to an electric fan. I am assuming you are talking about taking the stock fan off and installing a puller fan. Installing an electric fan on a TR6 is usually done for one or two reasons, extra cooling (which you apparently don't need - ie, pusher fan in front of the radiator and leaving the stock fan in place, it really is questionable how much good this does, or a puller fan in lieu of the stock fan, which requires some thought and planning. The electric only fan is usually placed on high performance engines that want the extra 4-6 hp gain from lack of plastic fan bogging engine plus very small weight savings by taking off the fan hub and replacing it with an aluminum donut. I vote for no electric fan, leave well enough alone. Now, with Dan Masters' wiring harness, you must have the complete dash out. This is a slick harness improvement but not something that can be undertaken casually, as you probably already know if you have started the re-do.

Good luck.

i'm doing the electric fan to gain some bhp. can't hurt, right?

it should be noted that i don't really know what i'm talking about, being a newb and all.

I would like to clafiy why I went with an electric fan. And no its not because I have more money than I know what to do with.

My 6 always seem to be running a little hot in traffic and I was uncomfortable with that. A good flush and new water pump didn't solve it so I decided to go with an elctric especially after I found out that I could gain a couple of HP by getting rid of the stock fan and the weight associated with it. If I hadn't had to cooling concern I would have followed Bill's advice and left things alone.
