ebay - amazing - 302 in a Midget!

But but, no 1275, note I said 1275.

At Las Vegas Motor Speedway, they run street car drag racing every friday night during the summer. A few months back, a guy brought out an Sprite with... a 327 Chevy tucked under the hood. Some people I was with laughed... Until it ran 124 MPH in the quarter. That shut them up... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I know I'm a bit fussy about these things but before dropping that 302 in the Midget I would have cleaned and possibly repainted the engine compartment.

The seller commented that the bonnet will need to be modified to clear the engine. The pictures are probably over-simplifying this to me... but it looks like a cleaner solution (particularly if you want a sleeper) would be to relocate and/or replace the alternator so it's not so high. It might also be necessary to fabricate a snorkel for the carb's intake and mount the air cleaner remotely... but if doing so would let me keep the car's stock lines I'd be a lot happier. The transmission tunnel looks like it would be an interesting challenge to fabricate. I wonder what his reserve is... I guess it doesn't matter, I'm not up for another project car just yet!

Any chance you may have a photo or two of this car? Or a lead on the owner?

I ask because I too had a Bugeye with a 327 Chevy in it back in the mid '70's before I joined the Army (20 year career). It was left at my Dad's house and disappeared while I was overseas. Of course Dad has been gone for awhile now...

No, I never had mine on the drag strip but it sure was fast -- in a straight line! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

I'm no expert, here, but shouldn't a 302 distributor be in the front. I saw a yellow 327 bugeye a few years ago at a car show auction in Houston. Scary

That was my first thought too.... certainly not a Ford. I don't know the first thing about Chevys but I've never heard of a bowtie 302!

Also, the description says it is a 6-Cylinder

67-69 Z-28 had a 302. 4" bore 3" stroke.

Do the math. 302 Cubic Inches = 4949 cc

4949 = 3 X 1275 engines + spare 948 (bored out to 1124)

Lots of engines /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif

I looked at the engine in the Midget and it is a GM V-8. It is not a Ford 302. It may be a 302 V-8 from an early Z-28 Camaro but the owner may be mistaken on the cubic inches and it could be any small block Chevy engine.
