TR6 Easier starting and clunking noises

Started 'er up for the first time in 15 days today. Took 15 seconds till she fired. Drove downtown, stopping off for a fillup at 3.25/gallon of 93 octane and discovered the cause of at least one of the clunking noises - the trunk lid. I had taped some weatherstripping around the opening but it had deteriorated and the lid was jumping up and down when I hit bumps. Before investing and more $ for weatherstripping, is there a better way to stop the lid from rattling?

The rubber seal is all there. Still it rattles, living up to its British heritage, especially with the top up. "If its not rattling, its not running." Time for more weatherstripping I guess. Its back to the hardware store in the morning. I don't know if there's any adjustment.

Did you mean $2.25/gallon of premium? Regular (87) is $1.99/gallon and premium (93) is $2.39/gallon for most places around here.

Pdplot, Have you adjusted the latch to max down or up in your case. Be very careful you don't go too far, as it will be hard to turn loose. If you can't get it to go far enough, get a tap and die set and thread it a little further. It's the top part on the boot that has the adjustment, you will have to take the two bolts out to unlock the stud.
Good luck.

I have a tap and die set - seldom used these days. I'll try to tighten the latch a bit but I've got to be careful not to make it too tight so it won't unlatch. I hate when that happens.

Scott, CT has the most outrageous gas tax in the nation. Gas prices are usually in the top 3 in the states. Seems like Hawaii and California are the only ones that are higher. Last night I was out with the family and noticed premium is $3.19, and regular is $2.59. ( I am in central CT. Stamford seems to always be a little higher. )

Are you familiar with those felt pads that you can put on the bottom of the legs of a chair. They have an adhesive side and come in various shapes and thicknesses.
I put 1 inch round ones, about 1/2 inch thick, in the 2 rear most corners of the opening.
The lid rests on those pads, thereby the considerable weight of the lid does not fully compress the boot seal.

Scot,

Ouch, so not only higher on the low end but a higher premium differential for premium (.60 versus .40 here).

And to stay on topic, glad the car is starting easier and hope the suggestions solve your rattle.

Trunk rattle gone. I just added another layer of weatherstrip on top of the original layer on the outer edge of the trunk lid. I tried adjusting the latch - but a caveat - you should unscrew it from the lid before lengthening the catch or you run the risk of having the inner nut fall into the trunk lid, never to be seen again but a potential source of an annoying rattle. Now to find the other clunk that only happens when I hit a bump - so I don't think it's a loose diff mount. I don't get the clunk when I back out of the garage or go forward thereafter.

A clunk when hitting a bump would make a loose shock absorber the prime suspect. I think I used a jam nut to insure that they stay tight.

They look tight but I'll check them again. We just r & r'd the left tube shock when we installed Goodpart spacers to level the rear of the car.
