TR4/4A Early TR4 - Rear Brakes

I have the rear brake cylinders apart. They are both Girling but with different idents, so I presume that one was replaced previously. My manual shows that the Girling doesn't have a spring behind the piston whereas the earlier Lockheed does. However, one cylinder had a spring and the other didn't. I don't know if the spring is a correct modification, or a mistake. Can anyone shed any light on this.

Thanks.

Hi Ian,

It's been a while since I've had them apart (I tend to replace brake slave cyl., rather than rebuild them), but I don't recall any internal spring. I suspect the one with the spring is from another car and incorrect for yours.
