A verry good design of Gerry Coocher
and a good works, well done zblu-sure better of sidescreens of the 100/6

Looks great, I guess I'll have to get a pair at some point down the road.....

Great looking curtains,I've got two original sets, but might need plex for one. Will you be selling any plex? Thanks ,Geno

I would assume like many things Healey, more custom than generic....

Thanks,
Michael.

mjobrien,
I used all new materials, copied my old frames with brass channel that didnt need much machining to match, made a form for the new perspex panels, got the correct rubber bits from a supplier in england and had new pegs cast using my originals to make the molds, then the fun of curving the channel without crushing, and they really do need to be hand fitted to match windscreen rake, pegholes etc, hardest part for me was obtaining some original perspex panels to work with

Zblu,
Very nice work. What is your source for the brass channel? Did you cut it in the middle to run the rubber seal down its length?

Lin

Hi Lin,
The brass section I hunted down actually had the curved edges ready formed for the rubber seal to fit, all I had to do was machine the channel down on two sides and do a bit of routing as well, had to be careful as the brass is prone to snatch!

Yes, brass (copper, bronze, etc.) is quite soft, so the cutting tool will bite right in.

Old guy's tip, is to dull the cutting edge a slight amount to avoid the initial grab. Having the work-piece securely mounted to the table, and having the slack of the traverse screws all working in the same direction to keep the feed steady are other pointers to watch.

A real treat is when someone hands you a project like this (copper bar turned into a water-jacket for liquid cooling an automotive audio amplifier). As the copper would heat up, from the milling process, it would get even gummier, so I just had to stop and resume later; work, cool and repeat:

zblu,
Can you share the source for the brass channel. I am even more interested since you say it already has the cut-out for the rubber gasket.

Lin

Lin,
It was a while ago that I got the channel, I'll see if I can dig up the source, as I am thinking about doing a couple of complete sets up in flat pack form for people that have inquired about them to fit up to their own cars, how much are you looking at?

Dougal,
If your car isn't one of the first 1100 or so then they would not be period correct, be easier/cheaper to emulate the mark 2 version which is basically 1"x1/8" flat bar frame with vinyl/clear plastic with a flap for hand access, they actually seem to work better!

Lin,
If your going to make up some new ones to suit without the curve, I'd get the proper glass cut to suit, as the perspex does scratch easily making viewing out out on a wet night or into the sun a misery!

Hi, my problem is the curve at the back of the screen that allows for access to the latch release rope. not sure how to get the proper curve.Maybe I could talk to a plex shop? Any ideas? thanks Genos2

Lin,Dougal,
The shop I purchased the channel from over here in West Oz no longer stocks this, same with a shop over in Victoria, however I still have a couple of sources to check out.
